As we all know, the Gucci show has become an indispensable part of fashion week in Italy’s fashion capital, Milan. Normally it meant the opening of fashion week. Instead, we got the icing on the cake with Gucci closing fashion week. However that was not the only thing that changed, the collection also took a different turn.
The show took place in the Gucci hub. The location of the creative centrum in Milan was dressed futuristically and thus became unrecognizable for many. In addition, the seats were divided into compartments by the runway’s moving walkways.
In the beginning notes of the designer were seen in the red-lit room. Quoting: New forms of subjectification. And it soon became clear that after 5 years of Alessandro Michele’s debut in 2015 it was time for a change.
When the shutters went up and the red room flashed white, 21 models entered the room. They wore straitjacket-style clothing, exactly as if they were stuck in their perception of how fashion should be by society’s rules. On top of that you could hear a girl saying: I don’t think I don’t even know what normal would be… As for that Alessandro had provided a matching sound to enhance the feeling of not wanting to live in such a world. A clear statement that was put here by the designer. Since we all know him for his philosophical approach. One thing is clear, such a world would be a boring one, where everyone is oppressed by their clothes and we don’t want to live in it.
Only a few minutes later, the light went out for a few seconds and the real collection started. When the models stepped onto the runway one by one, we saw a collection full of color, uniqueness and even a little bit of sexiness, which we clearly are not used to from this designer.
In this collection he also worked less with print and more with shades of color, even with a black color that he often tried to avoid. The show included riding whips and black vinyl chokers (a reference to S&M). However also high-slit midi skirts, clean looks and sexy pieces made it onto the runway and with that he gives a clear look back at the history of the brand and the collection of Tom Ford in the 90s.
It is in this contrast that he shows how much he has grown as a designer, how much he wants to stay innovative and how strongly he believes in a fashionable world without rules and boundaries. He himself believes that we can create a better society through fashion, a society in which everyone can develop their own ideas about beauty and independence. A perfect creative world.
